  • MAINE CHILDREN'S TRUST GRANT INFORMATION

    The Maine Children's Trust (MCT) is pleased to announce the 2007 - 2008 round of child abuse and neglect primary prevention grants. There is a total of approximately $60,000.00 available for grants of up to $8,000.00 each. One half of the amount applied for will be automatically available to grantees the following year for the same program so long as year end grant reports are completed and approved by the Grants Allocation Committee.

    MCT understands all of the time and effort it takes to apply for a grant. As we try to be sensitive to the never-ending workload of not-for-profit organizations, we are asking applicants to submit a "Letter of Intent" to determine if the program being applied for fits what is typically viewed as programs designed to strengthen and support families to prevent child abuse and neglect. Priorities for the 2007 - 2008 grant cycle have not yet been decided however, in the last round of grants, MCT showed preference for, but did not limit, funding to programs promoting positive youth development, providing early, comprehensive support for families, promoting the development of parenting skills or supporting the additional needs of families with children with cultural/special needs.

    SPECIAL NOTE: Beginning with the 2007 - 2008 round of grants, the Maine Children's Trust will accept only one Letter of Intent for one program per agency per year.

    In order to qualify for a grant, your organization:

    • Must be a 501(c)3 organization or use a 501(c)3 fiscal agent
    • Must be a Maine organization and serve Maine residents;
    • Must be for programs typical of child abuse and neglect prevention.

    The letter must not be more than one page in length, must be submitted electronically by e-mail to melissak@mechildrenstrust. org and contain:

    • Organization name, address, telephone #, contact person & e-mail address of contact person;
    • Some background information on the 501(c)3 organization;
    • Amount requested;
    • Brief description of program.

    The "Letter of Intent" will be due by 4:00 PM on Monday, January 21, 2008 and invitations for full proposals will go out by March 7, 2008. Proposals will be due by 4:00 PM on Tuesday, April 22, 2008 with awards made by June 30, 2008.
