  • MAINE CHILDREN'S TRUST GRANT INFORMATION

    The Maine Children's Trust (MCT) is pleased to announce the 2011 - 2012 round of grants to prevent child abuse before it occurs. There is a total of $60,000.00 available for grants of up to $8,000.00 each. One half of the amount applied for will be automatically available to grantees the following year for the same program so long as year end grant reports are completed and approved by the Grant Allocations Committee.

    MCT understands all of the time and effort it takes to apply for a grant. As we try to be sensitive to the never-ending workload of not-for-profit organizations, we are requiring applicants to submit a "Letter of Intent" to determine if the program being applied for fits what is typically viewed as a program designed to strengthen and support families to prevent child abuse and neglect.

    Priorities for the 2011 - 2012 grant cycle include, but are not limited to, funding of programs supporting:

    • early brain development;
    • building protective factors and family resilience;
    • promoting positive youth development;
    • supporting the child abuse prevention needs of minority populations, families with children with special needs, and unaccompanied homeless youth.

    The Maine Children's Trust will not fund intervention programs, tertiary programs, or any program that doesn't fall under the categories of either primary or secondary child abuse and neglect prevention. If you're not sure of the appropriateness of your program for a Maine Children's Trust grant, please call Melissa Krueger at 623-5120.

    SPECIAL NOTE: For a general Maine Children's Trust child abuse and neglect prevention grant, only one "Letter of Intent" for one program per agency per year may be submitted and that agency may not apply for the same program two years in a row. Only the "Letter of Intent Form" will be accepted. You must save your Letter of Intent form under your organization's name and submit it by email only to: melissak@mechildrenstrust.org.

    In order to qualify for a grant, your organization:

    • Must be a 501(c)3 organization or use a 501(c)3 fiscal agent
    • Must be a Maine organization and serve Maine residents;
    • Must be for programs typical of primary or secondary child abuse and neglect prevention.
    • Must use the "Letter of Intent Form" to submit your initial request.

    The "Letter of Intent" will be due by 3:00 PM on Monday, January 23, 2012 and invitations for full proposals will go out by March 2, 2012. Proposals will be due by 3:00 PM on Monday, April 16, 2012 with awards made by June 30, 2012.

    The Letter of Intent must be saved under your organization's name and submitted by email to: melissak@mechildrenstrust.org by 4:00 PM on Monday, January 23, 2012. Faxed versions or those sent by regular mail will not be accepted.

    Full proposal information will be available online by the end of January at www.mechildrenstrust.org and you may call Melissa Krueger at (207) 623-5120 with questions.
