April is Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Month.

From the end of March through April, local activities are planned to give community members the opportunity to see what's being done in their area to strengthen families and prevent child abuse and neglect in Maine. The following list is by date and will be updated as new events are submitted. March 23: Waterville, from 8:30 AM to 10:00 AM at the George J. Mitchell School beginning in the conference room next to the library. A police officer will read a book to the children.

March 24: Augusta, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at the Children's Center. A State Trooper will read a story to the children and will present him with thank you cards that they prepared in advance. Family of the children will be invited to attend.

Scheduled are a puppet show, a dance and the presentation of a peace wreath to a State Trooper. Blue and white cookies will be provided as a snack and parents and community members are invited.
