Abused or neglected children suffer physical and emotional damage which can affect them throughout their lives.
They are more likely to become abusive adults who do harm to their own children or spouses.
They may become involved in drug and alcohol abuse and other harmful behaviors.
Their actions inflict heavy costs on society and perpetuate a cycle of suffering.

The Promise of Hope

The MAINE CHILDREN'S TRUST is a statewide non-profit organization whose mission is to prevent child abuse and neglect.

It works to create a brighter future for Maine children. Created by the Maine legislature in 1985, the Trust evaluates child abuse and neglect prevention needs throughout Maine and takes necessary steps to help meet those needs.

The Trust raises and distributes money to community-based programs throughout Maine that work to prevent child abuse. The Trust advocates for increased services for Maine families as well as increasing public awareness.

The Trust is supported by federal grants, private foundations
and by a growing number of Maine individuals and businesses
who believe in a brighter future for all Maine children.

Prevention Works

Not only does prevention make our children happier, healthier and safer, but it's a wise investment.

It has been shown that every $1.00 spent on child abuse and neglect prevention saves a minimum of $7.60 on intervention and treatment.

The Maine Children's Trust is the only statewide organization that specifically address the issue of Child Abuse and Neglect prevention.
